1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it!
2. Do you judge a book by its cover? What cover elements make you not want to pick up a book?
I usually go for classic books with good reputations, books by authors I already know, or books that I've seen recommended by a lot of people. Therefore covers don't really matter to me, but I absolutely appreciate good covers and am turned off by bad ones. I was actually thinking about the covers of the Matched series the other day and how I don't love them. I think the way they look would also turn off the series to young males, and I think that's a shame.
3. Do you participate in any other bookish link-ups? Tell us about them so we can join next time!
I don't, but I'd like to find some!
4. Have you ever watched a movie that was better than its book version? Explain yourself!
Off the top of my head I can't think of any, but I feel like there has been at least one I've seen in my life that has been better than the book. The Virgin Suicides came very close, but in the end I appreciate the book and the movie for different things. The movie is absolutely beautiful though.
5. Summer is here! Do you read more often during any particular season?
I used to read for fun more in the Summer because it meant I was off from school (and actually had the time to read for fun!) But now that I'm done with school I read equally all year round.
6. What is the worst book you’ve read this year? Why?
This is probably the worst book I've ever read in my entire life, and certainly the one that has made me the angriest. It completely blew apart my "meh" feelings on the Divergent series and turned them solidly into "this is garbage." This article explains my feelings better and in more depth than I ever could, but uggh. Just uggh.
I love dystopian YA! I haven't heard of this book, but now I'm really interested! I judge books by their covers all the time. Unfortunately, I can't say that I go for classic novels. I usually actually go for newer books by authors that I'm familiar with. I can't believe you didn't like Allegiant! I thought it was much better than Insurgent, which I didn't really like much at all. I hate that the last two books were really incomparable to Divergent.

Thanks for stopping by! I just finished the entire series last night and it's definitely worth a read! And oh man Allegiant, I don't think words can ever describe how much I hated that book, hahaha. Well the article I linked to does pretty well but it's also one of the longest things I've ever read on the internet, haha!
DeleteI enjoyed the Matched trilogy. Not one of my favourites, but far from the worst thing I've read. I agree about the covers, they actually turned me off for a while.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the last book last night and I completely agree. I really don't like the covers too!
DeleteI love distopian YA too! I hated Allegiant I forgot that when I did my post! The style of writing was not what I was used to and the ending was not good!
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot about it too because I have tried to mentally block out everything I remember about that book, hahaha. Veronica Roth is just not a very good author and I felt Allegiant was just the exclamation mark on all the poor writing and plot holes in the trilogy. If the ending had been different it could have been better, but because it was so awful it just highlighted how awful everything else was.
DeleteI'm a book cover judger for sure. I do like to find and hear book rec's but when I'm hunting on my own, the covers is what sell me. I don't even bother with blurb on the back or on the inside cover. I don't want to have any preconceived notions of the book. ;) Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteI used to be way more of a cover judger when I bought books from the bookstore. The bookstore was always the one place where my parents would say "we will buy you whatever you want!" Now I read all my books on my Kindle because I had hand problems and holding actual books open is really painful for me. But I definitely avoid books that have awful covers on Amazon- which is actually why I avoided the series I just finished for so long!
