Our Life: Denver Zombie Crawl 2013

Yesterday was the annual Denver Zombie Crawl and even though my other friends couldn't make it this year, I knew that I had to go with R. I decided to bring Hank along too because well, downtown freaks me out a little and I knew I'd feel more comfortable with my giant beast dog. He was so excited to see all the people and get a lot of attention but boy oh boy, trying to wrangle a two year old and an 80lb 7 month old puppy is way too much for one person. My shoulder is sore today and my hands are raw from holding the leash. We had a good time but Next year I am making N take work off and will try and get more people to tag along!

Here's R giving me her zombie "RAWR"! She was running around rawring at people and it was pretty much the cutest thing ever. I don't know who got more attention, her or Hank! She sure makes a cute little zombie!

I put a little bit of fake blood on Hank's snout and everyone loved his "zombie dog" look! His dichromatic eyes really completed the look. One person asked me if I put a contact in his eye!? Yes lady, I got him a zombie dog contact in the dog contact aisle of Petsmart. They're really cheap. I'm SO bummed out my only picture of him was so blurry, but it was hard to take pictures with how nuts everything was!

The only pictures I got of myself were before and after car selfies, haha. A lot of my friends have asked me how I did my makeup and it's actually really easy. First I apply scar temporary tattoos that you can get at the pop-up Halloween stores, then I cover my face in white eyeshadow. The I circle my eyes and the tattoos in red eyeshadow, and then add fake blood! I also lined my eyes in black like I normally do, and yesterday I put on fake lashes as well. Here was my makeup last year:

This year we got off to a bad start because traffic downtown was an absolute nightmare. There was no parking- I even drove around two lots that cost $20! I had decided to head home after an HOUR of sitting in traffic when the car in front of me pulled into an underground parking garage that I hadn't even noticed. I figured it'd be better to wait for traffic to die down anyway, so we parked and hit up the 16th street mall.

I have never seen so many people in one place in my entire life. It was WAY more crowded than last year, something I had not been anticipating! It was difficult to walk in the giant crowd with both R who kept trying to run off, and Hank, who took all my strength to steer, but we had a good time and got a lot of pictures taken of us!

While we were walking a woman came up to me and said she was a dog groomer and that she loved Bernese Mountain Dogs but that this was "way too much for him, just way too much." Wtf? I've heard of unsolicited parenting advice, but unsolicited dog-parenting advice? Hank had a BLAST. He loves people, loves other dogs, is not frightened by crowds, and was in heaven with all the attention he was getting. If he had been uncomfortable I would have taken him home right away but he wasn't.

The worst part of the day was when I decided it was time to head home. Because we were in such a rush to get out of the car and over to the mall, I didn't take a good look at where we parked. And I don't mean where our spot was in the garage, I mean where the freaking garage was! I sort of remembered the cross streets thank god, but when I thought we had found the right garage it turns out it for the next building over. When I thought I had found the right garage the building was locked! Luckily a man who I presume worked at the building saw how lost I looked, and said I should go back to the locked door and use the buzzer. Luckily they let me in, and even more luckily it was the right garage and I found my car. I had been on the verge of a massive panic attack (and did I mention I had left my phone in my car?!) and have NEVER been so excited to see my car. Like ever. I got out of downtown like a total champ and we survived the day. I'm really glad I went down even though I was alone, and I'm already looking forward to next year!

    1. Thank you! I'm a total makeup armature but I scared the pants off the guy at the drive thru Starbucks so that must count for something, haha! Hey, zombies need Starbucks too! ;)

  3. I HATE unsolicited advice.. some lady tried to do that to me regarding Lorelei and I think I practically bit her head off.

I love you, R and your pups make up- you did such a great job with it!

I can't imagine losing my car in all that chaos, that had to suck big time. So glad everything turned out okay!
